Where:

telephone
& computer
Topic:
"Christianity: Between East and West"
(Part III: The Church)
with Dr. Eve (Paraskevè) Tibbs, Ph.D. (Theology)

-
Many
people in the world know little about the Orthodox Church, believing
someone must either be Catholic or Protestant in order to be
Christian.
Even many Orthodox Christians do not understand the significant
differences. Our theology and Christian worldview is often quite
different from western Christians, and without clarity as to how
we differ, we can unknowingly absorb views that are not Orthodox.
This affects how we understand Who God is and the purpose for which He
created us.
This
series of
presentations "Between East and West" will help clarify, in a respectful way, some of the major differences between the Orthodox Church and the
Protestant and Roman Catholic traditions, noting the Orthodox views on
issues such as worship, theology, salvation, authority in the church,
iconography, and more.
Tune
in on November 7th for Part III: The Church - for a discussion of important
issues. Many Christian groups refer to themselves in
terms of "One, Holy Catholic and Apostolic" from the
Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed, but their definition of those terms is
quite different that the Orthodox and Patristic understanding.
Dial in to hear some of the differences between the Eastern Orthodox view
of "Church" and western Christian views. Also to be
covered will be some differences in views about ministry, authority and
communion.
